How to Verify Your Identity In-Person at a U.S. Post Office

You can verify your identity at a U.S. Postal Service Post Office near you. This is sometimes referred to as in-person proofing. If you verify your identity at a USPS Post Office, you still need to complete your orientation appointment with a WorkSource Oregon reemployment specialist.

You must complete in-person identity verification to be eligible for benefits.

You must have a Frances Online account before you can verify your identity at a Post Office. Read this guide for help creating a Frances Online account.

We make regular updates to Frances Online, so the screens you see may look a little different from the images shown here.

Identification document options

USPS accepts these forms of identification:

  • State-issued driver’s license
  • State-issued identification card
  • U.S. armed forces or Uniformed Services identification card (requires proof of address)
  • U.S. passport (requires proof of address)

If you don’t have these forms of identification, visit a WorkSource Oregon location to verify your identity in person.

USPS has more information about acceptable forms of identification on its website. The sign-up process will provide a list of USPS Post Offices near you where you can verify your identity.

  • Services in languages other than English may not be available at a USPS Post Office.

Step 14

  • After the Post Office reviews your identity documents, the Oregon Employment Department will send you updates about your claim for benefits.

Important tips

  • We may require you to verify your identity by completing tasks in Frances Online at other times during your claim. This is separate from in-person identification. Both may be required.
  • You may be asked to verify your identity in-person after you have received benefits. Not completing this task by the due date may delay or stop your benefits.
  • If the due date has passed, complete your in-person identity verification as soon as possible. You will be able to file weekly claims again and receive benefits if otherwise eligible.
  • If you have trouble verifying your identity at a Post Office and live in Oregon or in a bordering area, you can visit any WorkSource Oregon location to verify your identity in person. If you are required to complete a Reemployment Services Eligibility Assessment, or RESEA, you can do it at the same time.
